A restored 1969 Churchill memorial glass panel will debut in April 2026 at Stourbridge Glass Museum after 30+ years.
A restored panel from the 1969 Churchill Memorial Screen, a 40-foot glass mosaic by Edward Bainbridge Copnall, will be unveiled in April 2026 at Stourbridge Glass Museum, marking its first public showing in over 30 years.
The artwork, originally in Dudley’s Churchill shopping centre, was removed in 1992 after vandalism damaged its central portrait and six panels.
One surviving panel, depicting the Battle of the Atlantic, has been restored and will be illuminated with new backlighting.
The museum will host a private viewing on November 20 before launching a permanent exhibition on the screen’s history and cultural impact.
Fundraising is underway to restore additional panels for display at the original site.
