A 27-year-old Nigerian man, Chukwuebuka Eweni, was arrested in New Orleans on November 11, 2025, in connection with the fatal stabbing of his father, Samuel Eweni, a computer sciences professor at Southern University at New Orleans, and the injury of two sisters in a domestic incident. Police responded to a report of an aggravated battery by cutting at a home on Pebble Street, finding the father unresponsive with fatal stab wounds and two female victims injured. Eweni, who had a history of mental illness but no prior violent acts, was located in Jefferson Parish and taken into custody, where he is undergoing a medical evaluation. Authorities charged him with one count of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder. One sister has been discharged from the hospital, while the other remains hospitalized but is expected to recover. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will determine the official cause of death after an autopsy.
