Ghana’s ambassador to the Holy See, Ben Batabe Assorow, presented his credentials to Pope Leo XIV in a Vatican ceremony, marking a renewal of diplomatic ties dating to 1975.
The Pope commended Ghana’s anti-corruption efforts, economic reforms under the Reset Agenda, and work against illegal mining, while expressing interest in visiting Ghana ahead of its 70th independence anniversary in 2027 and the Catholic Church’s 150th anniversary in the country in 2030.
Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to collaboration with the Church on development and peace, and both sides expressed hope for a future papal visit.
The meeting ended with the Pope granting an Apostolic Blessing.
