A 43-year-old Walpole Island man, Windy Riley, was sentenced to 2½ years in prison for fentanyl trafficking and firearm offenses after a March 2023 raid uncovered over 11 grams of fentanyl, cash, and multiple firearms at his home. He pleaded guilty to five counts including unauthorized firearm possession and breaching a court order. Both prosecutors and defense recommended the sentence, which Judge Russell Raikes imposed, citing Riley’s personal struggles and potential for rehabilitation despite the dangers of combining drugs and weapons. Riley apologized, accepted responsibility, and committed to sobriety. He will be placed in an Indigenous-specific treatment program and is barred from contacting certain individuals. His common-law partner faces separate charges that were adjourned.
