An 82-year-old Cumbrian farmer died from pneumonia after a cow trampling worsened his chronic lung conditions.
John Solomon Holliday, an 82-year-old Cumbrian farmer, died on June 7, 2025, from a respiratory infection worsened by injuries from a cow trampling on March 15.
He sustained multiple fractures, a haemothorax, and haematomas while working on his family’s farm in Aikton.
Despite initial recovery, his pre-existing COPD, farmer’s lung, and recent weight loss led to fatal pneumonia.
Though advised to reduce work, he remained committed to farming.
The inquest concluded his death resulted from the infection triggered by trauma and underlying health issues.
