Westmorland and Furness is consulting on 24 new 20mph zones to improve safety, with decisions due before early 2026.
A public consultation has begun on 24 proposed 20mph speed limit zones across Westmorland and Furness, part of a second phase to enhance road safety in built-up areas with existing 40mph or lower limits.
All 24 schemes were approved by local authorities, with 20 advancing as planned and four adjusted based on community feedback.
In Furness, eight zones, including school areas, are moving forward, with two school zones combined.
Eden sees seven zones progressing, while Castletown was excluded due to inconclusive feedback and will be reconsidered separately.
South Lakeland received strong support for several zones, though opposition was noted in some areas.
The consultation, required by law, runs through November and December, with final decisions expected before early 2026 implementation.
