Walmart has named John Furner, current CEO of Walmart U.S., as its next CEO, effective February 1, 2026, succeeding Doug McMillon, who will retire on January 31, 2026.
Furner, who began as an hourly associate in 1993, has led Walmart’s U.S. operations since 2019 and was appointed to the company’s Board of Directors.
The board cited his deep experience, operational expertise, and leadership in driving AI-driven innovation.
McMillon will remain on the board and serve as an advisor through fiscal year 2027.
