Uttarakhand's CM launched the 11-day Jauljibi Fair on the India-Nepal border, highlighting its cultural and economic ties.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the 11-day Jauljibi Fair on the India-Nepal border in Pithoragarh, highlighting its cultural, economic, and historical significance as a symbol of bilateral ties.
The fair, held at the confluence of the Kali and Gori rivers, has long served as a pilgrimage stop for Kailash Mansarovar travelers and a hub for trade with Nepal and Tibet, though Tibetan trade ended after the 1962 war.
Dhami announced multiple infrastructure projects, including new roads, trekking routes, a stadium, medical and transport upgrades, and expansions at Naini Saini Airport, with over Rs 327 crore allocated under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.
The fair, first held in 1914 and revived in the 1960s, concludes November 24, though trading may continue.
