Fifth-grade students at Oak Glen Middle School in Hancock County honored the sheriff’s K-9 Division with gifts including cooling mats and dog treats, supported by The Allstate Foundation.
The event, held Friday in the school gym, featured demonstrations of the dogs’ work and recognition of the unit’s four deputies and five dogs, including Kennie, a new bloodhound in training for search missions.

Hugh Tate noted that each K-9 costs up to $20,000 to acquire and train.
The students also donated items for Meeka, the school’s service dog.
