Randy S. Brown, 62, of Spokane, was sentenced to 2½ years in prison for second-degree manslaughter after providing fentanyl-laced pills to his friend, 67-year-old retired firefighter David Batty, who died in October 2023.
Brown, who had warned Batty about the dangers of the pills in a Facebook chat, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and possession of a controlled substance.
Batty was found dead in his camp trailer with 12 counterfeit pills nearby, later confirmed to contain fentanyl, methamphetamine, and alcohol.
Court records showed Brown had engaged in drug transactions and was aware of the risks.
Batty’s son expressed forgiveness during the sentencing, reflecting his father’s character.
