A New York man fell from a moving Maine bus roof, injured but not critically, after opening an emergency hatch while the bus was in motion.
A 35-year-old New York man, Derrick McDuffy, was seriously injured Friday morning after falling from the roof of a moving Concord Coach Lines bus on the Maine Turnpike near Kittery around 11:15 a.m.
He reportedly opened an emergency roof hatch and climbed onto the roof while the bus was in motion, citing overheating.
The driver noticed and attempted to pull over, but McDuffy fell onto the shoulder before the bus stopped.
Witnesses and passengers provided aid, and he was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A replacement bus transported passengers, and traffic briefly slowed but returned to normal by noon.
Authorities continue investigating the incident.
