A £17M upgrade boosts sewage treatment at Keynsham, cutting discharges and supporting growth.
A £17 million upgrade to Wessex Water’s Keynsham Water Recycling Centre is complete, boosting its sewage treatment capacity by over 40% to 208 litres per second.
The project, delivered by YTL Construction UK, added a 17-metre primary settlement tank, a 15-metre storm tank holding over 300,000 litres, and improved systems to reduce phosphorous levels.
The upgrades aim to protect the River Avon, cut untreated wastewater discharges, and support local population growth.
The work is part of Wessex Water’s 2025–30 plan, which includes £580 million in investments to improve water quality and manage storm overflows.
A separate £35 million expansion at Saltford Water Recycling Centre is underway and expected to finish early next year.
