Iowa opens $40M biomanufacturing pilot facility in 2027 to advance food-grade bioproducts.
Iowa officials, ISU leaders, and BioMADE announced the start of a $40 million pilot-scale biomanufacturing facility at ISU’s BioCentury Research Farm in Boone, funded by state, university, federal, and private sources.
The 15,000-square-foot site, set to open in 2027, will offer expanded fermentation, lab, and processing capabilities to help companies test food-grade bioproducts like probiotics and sweeteners before scaling.
The project aims to bridge lab-to-market gaps, boost U.S. innovation, create jobs, and strengthen Iowa’s biomanufacturing sector through public-private-academic collaboration.
Similar facilities are being developed in California and Minnesota.
