FAU professor Rebel Cole sued the university over his paid leave for social media criticism of Charlie Kirk’s murder, citing First Amendment violations.
Florida Atlantic University finance professor Dr. Rebel Cole has sued the university, claiming his First Amendment rights were violated after being placed on paid administrative leave in September over social media posts reacting to the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
The lawsuit, filed in federal court, alleges the university targeted him for criticizing online celebrations of Kirk’s death, including threats to make a user “unemployable,” without evidence the posts violated policy or posed a safety threat.
Cole, a tenured professor, seeks reinstatement, damages, and attorney fees, naming university leaders as defendants.
Two other FAU professors were also placed on leave over related social media activity.
The university has not commented, and the case highlights ongoing tensions over free speech on campus.
El profesor de FAU, Rebel Cole, demandó a la universidad por su licencia pagada por las críticas en las redes sociales del asesinato de Charlie Kirk, citando violaciones de la Primera Enmienda.
