Yale’s police chief Anthony Campbell to lead Harvard’s police department starting Jan. 5, 2026.
Anthony Campbell, Yale’s police chief since 2022 and a 30-year law enforcement veteran in New Haven, will become Harvard University’s next police chief effective January 5, 2026.
He succeeds Victor Clay, who resigned in May 2025, and will lead the nation’s oldest university police department.
Campbell, a Yale alumnus, previously served as New Haven’s police chief and emphasized community policing, staff diversity, and collaboration with civilian oversight boards during his tenure at Yale.
He will be succeeded at Yale by Duane Lovello, Yale’s Head of Public Safety, who will oversee the department temporarily.
