Two elderly Russian Jehovah’s Witnesses jailed for online worship amid state crackdown.
Two 74-year-old Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia were sentenced to three years in prison in November 2025 for religious activities, including online worship, based on secret testimony from an alleged FSB informant who infiltrated their group.
The church says at least 30 similar cases have relied on undercover state agents, calling the trials unfair and part of a broader crackdown.
Since 2017, Russia has designated the group a terrorist organization, a ruling condemned by the European Court of Human Rights.
Over 175 members are now imprisoned, including 19 aged 65 or older.
