Twenty-three Vanuatu residents earned a national electrical certification to maintain new clean energy systems for 700 homes by late 2025.
Twenty-three residents of Pentecost Island, including four women, have become the first in Vanuatu to earn a nationally recognized Certificate I in Electrotechnology, completing a 41-day training program funded by Japan and implemented by UNDP.
The graduates, trained in electrical safety, wiring, solar applications, and digital tools, will maintain new pico-hydro power stations set to deliver clean electricity to about 700 households by December 2025, benefiting over 6,000 people.
The initiative supports Vanuatu’s goal of 100% renewable energy by 2030 and is seen as a model for community-led green energy development and expanding technical education in rural areas.
