South Dakota moves to boost oversight of state funds and credit use after probe into Noem's spending found $750K in questionable charges.
A South Dakota legislative committee has advanced proposals to increase oversight of the Future Fund and state credit card use, following scrutiny of former Governor Kristi Noem’s spending.
The bills would require board approval for Future Fund grants and set spending limits on state credit cards, addressing an investigation that found $750,000 in questionable charges over six years, including personal travel.
While a measure to review the governor’s out-of-state expenses failed, the committee backed core reforms aimed at improving transparency and accountability.
The legislation could be considered during the upcoming January session.
