Shandong Province in eastern China has become the nation’s top marine fishery producer, generating 8.25 million tonnes of marine aquatic products in 2024 and creating over 100 billion yuan in added value—the highest of any province.
As of late 2025, it hosts 139 provincial-level or higher marine farms, including 71 national-level facilities, making up 38% of China’s national-level marine farms.
The province has expanded its integrated industry chain through large-scale offshore cage breeding, aquaculture, fishing, and processing, with drone footage showing active operations in Rongcheng, Qingdao, and Rizhao.
Ongoing efforts include sustainable practices like ecological breeding and seasonal fishing moratoriums, supporting China’s “blue food depot” initiative and boosting food security and exports.
