Philippines to jail 37 officials over flood project corruption by Christmas.
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said on November 13, 2025, that at least 37 high-profile politicians, officials, and business leaders tied to a multibillion-peso flood control corruption scheme will be jailed by Christmas. An independent commission has filed graft, plunder, and tax-evasion charges, with probes spanning 9,800 projects worth over 545 billion pesos. Assets worth 6.3 billion pesos are frozen, and a new Quezon City jail is being prepared. The crackdown follows deadly typhoons that killed at least 259 people and intensified public anger. Marcos said no one is exempt; although his cousin Martin Romualdez and former official Zaldy Co aren’t charged due to lack of evidence, they could still face prosecution if new proof emerges.
