Neros, a drone-racing startup, won a U.S. Army contract to supply 1 million low-cost drones by 2026.
Soren Monroe-Anderson and Olaf Hichwa, drone-racing champions who founded Neros in 2023, have won a U.S. Army contract to supply their Archer drones under the "Purpose-Built Attritable Systems" program.
Selected alongside two other American firms, Neros will help the Army procure at least 1 million low-cost, expendable drones over the next two to three years, supported by a projected $36 million in 2026 funding.
The company, which has raised $121 million including a $75 million Sequoia Capital-led round, previously secured a $17 million Marine Corps contract and a deal to supply 6,000 drones to Ukraine.
Their success stems from racing-derived expertise in lightweight, high-performance drone design, with military testing showing resilience to jamming.
Despite initial skepticism, the Defense Innovation Unit and Pentagon officials have praised Neros for delivering affordable, reliable drones at scale, positioning the startup as a key player in U.S. military drone production.
