The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Madhu Jayakumar, the prime accused in a cross-border organ trafficking case, on November 8, 2025, after he returned from Iran.
He was apprehended following an Interpol Red Corner Notice issued in February 2025 after he fled India.
The case, which began in May 2024 when a youth was intercepted at Kochi airport, involves allegations that Madhu and associates targeted economically vulnerable individuals, deceiving them with promises of legal organ donation in Iran while arranging illegal transplants.
The NIA alleges the network used forged documents and coordinated with Iranian hospitals.
Madhu was remanded to NIA custody until November 19 for questioning, marking a key development in the investigation into a transnational trafficking ring.
