John Force, 76, retired from NHRA drag racing after a 40-year career, citing health issues from a 2024 crash.
John Force, 76, has officially retired from NHRA drag racing after a career spanning nearly 40 years, marked by 16 Funny Car championships and 157 wins—the most in NHRA history.
His retirement follows a traumatic brain injury sustained in a high-speed crash at Virginia Motorsports Park in June 2024, when a catastrophic engine failure sent his car into a wall at about 300 mph.
Though he survived the life-threatening crash, which also caused a fractured sternum, Force said ongoing medical concerns led him to step down.
He confirmed the decision in a social media video, expressing gratitude and pride in his family’s legacy.
While no longer racing, he will remain involved with John Force Racing, where his daughters Courtney and Brittany have retired to start families.
He looks to the next generation, including his grandchildren, to carry on the team’s tradition.
