A 23-year-old Dublin man, Reece O’Brien, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for money laundering and possessing criminal proceeds linked to a cannabis operation, including €5,595 in cash, drugs, and luxury items.
Police searched his apartment after reports of a strong cannabis smell, finding a Volkswagen Golf purchased with cash.
O’Brien threatened officers during an interview, including vowing to harm them.
His co-accused, Stephanie Boylan, 24, pleaded guilty to money laundering, expressed remorse, and received a suspended sentence due to no prior convictions.
Both had a long-term relationship.
The judge noted the seriousness of the offense and O’Brien’s criminal history, including 36 prior convictions, but acknowledged his youth and mental health struggles.
