Brett Button, 61, denied appeal on 32-year sentence for 2023 NSW bus crash that killed 10, including wedding guests.
Brett Button, 61, will serve his full 32-year prison sentence after the New South Wales Court of Criminal Appeal rejected his appeal on November 14, 2025, in the wake of a 2023 bus crash in the Hunter Valley that killed 10 wedding guests and injured 25 others. The crash, which occurred on June 11, 2023, on Wine Country Drive near Singleton, happened when Button, under the influence of the opioid Tramadol, was driving recklessly and joking about rollercoasters before losing control and rolling the bus. He pleaded guilty to 35 charges, including 10 counts of dangerous driving causing death. The court upheld the original sentence, including a 24-year non-parole period, stating it was appropriate given the severity of the tragedy and the victims’ trust in his duty as a hired driver. Button remains eligible for release in 2048.
