Archer Aviation buys Hawthorne Airport for $126M to launch electric flying taxi service ahead of 2028 Olympics.
Archer Aviation has agreed to buy Hawthorne Municipal Airport near LAX for $126 million to transform it into a hub for its electric flying taxi service ahead of the 2028 Olympics.
The site, three miles from LAX, will serve as a base for testing and operating the company’s Midnight eVTOL aircraft, which can carry four passengers up to 50 miles at 150 mph.
The airport will also host development of AI-powered air traffic and ground operations systems.
The acquisition, pending regulatory approval, aims to establish a sustainable urban air mobility network in one of the world’s busiest airspace regions.
