Rep. Chip Roy proposes freezing immigration to overhaul chain migration, H-1B visas, and birthright citizenship, with Sharia vetting and a $100,000 H-1B fee starting Sept. 21, 2025.
Republican Congressman Chip Roy of Texas announced plans to introduce legislation that would freeze all immigration to the U.S. until reforms are made to chain migration, the H-1B visa program, and birthright citizenship.
The bill would also require vetting immigrants for adherence to Sharia law.
Roy cited concerns about assimilation and a "massive Islamism problem," aligning the proposal with former President Trump’s policies, including a new $100,000 fee for H-1B visa applications effective September 21, 2025, which applies only to new petitions and the 2026 lottery, not existing holders or pre-deadline filings.
