Officers and dispatchers saved a man from jumping off a bridge, earning top honors for their teamwork and quick response.
Chatham-Kent police officers and emergency communications operators were awarded a Chief’s Commendation for their coordinated response on July 1 to a man threatening to jump from the Lacroix Street Bridge.
Officers Cole Brigley, Steve Gagnon, Chris Reynolds, and Fraser Leontowicz de-escalated the situation and physically intervened when the man fell, preventing serious injury.
They were supported by communications operators Brock Bechard, Camryn Dudley, McKenna Ladd, and Victoria Labadie, whose rapid information sharing enabled a swift response.
Chief Kirk Earley praised the team’s bravery, empathy, and commitment to saving lives, noting the incident highlighted the importance of teamwork and mental health response in emergencies.
The honor was presented at a police board meeting.
