Nigerian military forces rescued 74 National Youth Service Corps members from a potential abduction by Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters in Borno State on Tuesday night after their buses broke down on a high-risk road.
The Joint Task Force North East, operating under Operation Hadin Kai, responded to surveillance alerts showing suspicious activity and evacuated the group to safety at the Buratai military base.
The corps members had traveled from Maiduguri to Damaturu under military escort but continued to Hawul Local Government Area without requesting further protection.
They are now sheltered at the base pending secure transport to their next destination.
