Nationwide clarifies overdraft rules: first £50 interest-free, 39.9% on more, no daily fees, 28-day notice.
Nationwide Building Society has clarified its overdraft policy after a customer reported unexpected charges while staying under £50 overdrawn.
The bank confirmed that the first £50 of an arranged overdraft is interest-free, but any amount above that incurs a 39.9% annual interest rate.
Charges are only applied to unauthorized overdrafts if the customer previously agreed to such terms, and no daily fees are imposed.
Customers receive 28 days’ notice before charges appear on statements, which may be processed up to two months after the overdraft occurs.
Nationwide does not offer unarranged overdrafts; negative balances without an agreed limit result in blocked payments, which could impact credit scores.
The society also confirmed it will keep all 605 branches open at least until 2030, providing in-person services including account openings and support for sensitive issues.
Nationwide aclara las reglas de sobregiro: primeras £ 50 sin intereses, 39.9% en más, sin tarifas diarias, aviso de 28 días.
