Kelvin Pratt, Sam Ryder’s childhood guitar teacher, performed on stage with the popstar at London’s Wembley Arena, playing rhythm guitar on “Go Steady” during Ryder’s headlining concert.
The 66-year-old musician from Maldon, who taught Ryder at a studio in Heybridge, was invited after reconnecting in August at a McFly concert in Margate, following a clip of Ryder mentioning him on ITV’s This Morning.
Pratt, who still teaches guitar, plays in pubs, and maintains church organs, described the experience as “daunting but fantastic,” praising Ryder’s humility and work ethic, including thanking crew members after the show.
He expressed strong confidence in Ryder’s future, especially as he prepares for a role in “Jesus Christ Superstar,” calling him a potential national treasure.
