Irish judge to decide if former teacher Enoch Burke should be jailed for defying court order to enter Wilson’s Hospital School.
A judge in Ireland is set to rule on whether Enoch Burke should be jailed for contempt of court after repeatedly violating a ban on entering Wilson’s Hospital School in County Westmeath.
The school says Burke, a former teacher and evangelical Christian, continues to attempt entry despite a court order, causing disruptions and forcing increased security measures.
The dispute began in 2022 over a transgender student’s name and pronouns, which Burke claimed violated his religious beliefs.
He has previously been imprisoned and fined over €200,000.
The court also considers contempt charges against Burke and three family members for disruptive behavior in a prior hearing.
The school seeks compliance with the court order, not punishment, and says Burke remains on the Department of Education payroll despite a postponed disciplinary appeal.
No representatives appeared for Burke in the latest hearing.
