Gavai stated on November 12, 2025, that India’s progress on gender equality stems from civil society, women’s movements, and public activism, not just judicial rulings.
Speaking at the 30th Justice Sunanda Bhandare Memorial Lecture, he emphasized the need to dismantle social, cultural, and economic barriers limiting women’s access to justice and opportunity, especially in rural and marginalized communities.
Gavai called for men’s active role in reimagining power structures and stressed that gender justice requires ongoing collaboration between citizens and the judiciary to uphold constitutional values.
