The Duchess of Edinburgh toured the BAP America, a 1904-built river gunboat and the world’s oldest surviving river gunboat, during her second day in Peru.
The vessel, now a museum ship at the Iquitos Naval Base, was part of her broader South and Central America tour, which includes Panama, Guatemala, and Belize.
On her first day, she met with Indigenous women from the Awajun, Shipibo-Konibo, and Kukama Kukamiria communities, recognizing their leadership in environmental protection, territorial governance, and climate action.
She also attended a dinner marking the UK’s first year of a biodiverse landscape programme supporting sustainable development and bio-business in the Andes and Amazon regions.
