Dana Williamson, ex-Newsom aide, indicted on 23 charges for stealing $225K from Becerra’s campaign fund for personal use.
Dana Williamson, former chief of staff to California Governor Gavin Newsom, has been indicted on 23 federal charges for allegedly stealing $225,000 from Xavier Becerra’s dormant campaign account and using funds for personal expenses, including luxury goods and travel.
The indictment accuses Williamson and four others, including Becerra’s former aide Sean McCluskie, of creating fake contracts and funneling money through shell companies.
McCluskie has pleaded guilty and agreed to repay $225,000.
Williamson, who served in Newsom’s administration until late 2024, pleaded not guilty and was released.
Becerra, not accused, called the allegations a “gut punch.” The case stems from a three-year federal investigation.
