A Cork man pleaded guilty to assaulting his former wife in front of their children, following a violent incident involving strangulation and threats.

A man in Cork pleaded guilty to non-fatal strangulation, assault, threats to kill, and criminal damage after allegedly choking his former wife in front of their young children on August 12–13, 2024, while they were still living together despite being separated. The court heard he consumed two bottles of champagne, forced entry into her locked bedroom, read abusive texts aloud, and assaulted her, prompting the children to intervene. The victim reported prior abuse, including threats with a knife and knuckle duster, and sustained bruises and a lip injury. The man, with a history of driving offenses, was arrested and detained three times, making limited admissions. Judge Helen Boyle remanded him in custody until November 27, 2025, pending reports on his alcohol use and rehabilitation efforts.
