Cincinnati proposes a 9 p.m. curfew for minors in a high-crime zone to reduce youth gatherings and violence.
Cincinnati City Council will vote on a proposed 9 p.m. curfew for unsupervised minors in a two-block stretch of Short Vine in Corryville, aiming to reduce youth gatherings and rising violent crime, including a recent Halloween gunfire incident.
The curfew, which would apply to those under 18 between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., mirrors existing rules with exceptions for school, work, First Amendment activities, and being with an adult.
Violators may be directed home or taken to a city curfew center for shelter and counseling.
The move follows a 26% increase in violent crime in the area this year, though homicides and rapes remain down.
The ordinance, submitted as an emergency, would take effect immediately if approved.
