Amazon is integrating Whole Foods' 100,000+ employees into its systems by 2026 to boost efficiency and profit.
Amazon is moving forward with Project Cremini to fully integrate Whole Foods into its operations by bringing all 100,000+ employees under Amazon’s systems by next year, including unified pay, performance reviews, and tools. The effort, led by Whole Foods CEO Jason Buechel, aims to streamline operations, cut redundancies, and boost efficiency across Amazon’s grocery and essentials businesses. Recent steps include consolidating vendor teams for 16 major suppliers, expected to generate at least $94 million in additional profit, and launching the Fusion delivery service. A new store format combining retail space with microfulfillment centers has also debuted. The integration supports Amazon’s broader strategy as its everyday essentials category grew nearly twice as fast as other US product lines in the first half of 2025.
