West Bengal launched 110 mobile clinics in Kolkata, expanding free healthcare access under a major state health initiative.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated 110 mobile medical units in Kolkata, with 100 more planned, as part of a state healthcare expansion.
Each unit offers up to 35 free diagnostic tests and serves pregnant women with ultrasound screenings.
The initiative, funded with 84 crores, supports the Swasthya Sathi scheme, which provides free treatment to over 8.72 million people across 2.45 crore families, including care in private hospitals without out-of-pocket costs.
The state’s health budget has risen to 21,500 crores, and the government has built 14 medical colleges, 42 super-specialty hospitals, and expanded hospital beds by 40,000.
Banerjee cited 99.5% institutional deliveries and 64,000 free heart surgeries for children under the Sishu Sathi program, while condemning private hospitals that demand additional payments despite coverage.
