Texas launches horned lizard license plate, raising $5.4M for conservation since 2025.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has launched a new conservation license plate featuring the Texas horned lizard, marking the 25th anniversary of the state’s program.
The design, chosen by public vote and based on a photo by wildlife photographer Hector Astorga, aims to support efforts to recover the declining species.
Since its launch, the program has raised over $12.7 million, with the horned lizard plate contributing more than $5.4 million—the most of any plate.
Proceeds fund conservation of native species and habitats, including pollinators, turtles, and state parks.
The $30 annual plate, with $22 going to conservation, is available for vehicles, trailers, and motorcycles through the TPWD website.
