Patrick Lee Miller, a former Duquesne University philosophy professor, has been named founding director of West Virginia University’s Washington Center for Civics, Culture, and Statesmanship, set to begin January 1, 2026.
He will earn $300,000 in his first year, including a $215,000 base salary, $85,000 in administrative compensation, and up to $10,000 in relocation funds, with potential performance bonuses.
The center, created by House Bill 3297 and funded with $1.5 million, aims to promote classical Western history, American constitutional thought, and civic education.
Miller will lead curriculum development, manage staff and budget, and report to university leadership.
His tenured faculty position, valued at $120,000, is contingent on continued state funding.
The role is renewable annually if funding persists.
