A former Nebraska DHHS supervisor, Lea Meece, 39, faces federal fraud charges for allegedly helping her husband, Kyle Ames, 48, obtain over $43,000 in SNAP and Medicaid benefits from March 2021 to April 2025 by concealing his income and their relationship.
Meece, who accessed his case improperly, is accused of submitting false documents.
Both face charges for theft by deception and fraud, with Meece’s bond set at $5,000 and a court date scheduled for November 18, 2025.
The case was uncovered in April 2025 following a referral to the NDHHS Special Investigations Unit.
