Minnesota DNR asks public to report bear dens to aid winter GPS tracking for research and conflict reduction.
The Minnesota DNR is asking hunters and outdoor users in the Brainerd, Grand Rapids, and Duluth areas to report bear dens this fall to help researchers fit bears with GPS collars during winter.
This effort aims to collect full-year movement data, improve understanding of bear behavior, support population management, and reduce human-bear conflicts.
Public reports, including GPS locations and photos if safe, can be submitted by calling the DNR bear research team or using an online tool.
The project builds on long-term bear studies and is partially funded by the Minnesota Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund.
