The initiative, building on India’s success, will roll out biometric authentication and tokenization in Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam by 2027 to combat rising card-not-present fraud and reduce checkout friction. The move supports Southeast Asia’s growing digital economy, projected to reach $325 billion by 2028 with 94% of e-commerce transactions digital. Early results show tokenization boosts approval rates by up to 6% and drives over $2 billion in additional monthly sales. The effort involves partnerships with banks, merchants, and tech firms to standardize secure, seamless payments using Click to Pay and on-device biometrics.
