India is considering visa-on-arrival for foreign patients seeking medical treatment, particularly from countries like the U.S. and select European nations, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said at the CII Annual Health Summit.
The move aims to boost medical tourism by simplifying entry, building on India’s expanded healthcare infrastructure, including doubled medical colleges and planned growth in medical seats.
Goyal emphasized evaluating safety, certification, and bilateral trust, with the Confederation of Indian Industry tasked to study the proposal.
The government also stressed balancing international patient care with affordable, quality healthcare for India’s 1.4 billion citizens.
