Green sea turtle Porkchop, rescued with injuries, is recovering and expected to be released by year’s end.
A green sea turtle named Porkchop, rescued from the San Gabriel River with a severed flipper and fishing gear injuries, is recovering at the Aquarium of the Pacific and is expected to be released by year’s end.
She is one of four sea turtles rescued this year as part of the aquarium’s ongoing efforts since 2000 to rehabilitate endangered marine species.
The facility is expanding its conservation work with a new medical facility and a new partnership to restore endangered Indo-Pacific zebra sharks in Indonesia, using genetically suitable sharks and eggs to bolster wild populations.
The aquarium also supports broader marine conservation through research, public education, and international collaborations.
