Google sued over secretly enabling Gemini AI in Gmail, Chat, and Meet without clear user consent.
Google is facing a class-action lawsuit alleging it secretly activated its Gemini AI across Gmail, Chat, and Meet in October without users’ consent, enabling the company to access and analyze private emails, messages, and attachments.
Filed in California federal court, the complaint claims Google violated the state’s 1967 Invasion of Privacy Act by monitoring confidential communications without clear, informed consent.
Although users can opt out, the setting is buried in complex privacy controls, making it difficult to disable.
The case, Thele v. Google LLC, is pending, and Google has not responded to the allegations.
