A former Essex cop was banned for life over repeated sexual remarks to female colleagues.
A former Essex Police detective constable, Tony Arthur, has been found guilty of gross misconduct for repeatedly making inappropriate sexual comments to five female colleagues in 2024.
Despite resigning in October after suspension, a misconduct hearing confirmed his actions violated professional standards, including respect, equality, and public trust, leading to his permanent ban from UK policing via the College of Policing’s barred list.
The investigation was prompted by colleagues who reported the behavior, and assistant chief officer Robin Punt praised their courage, reaffirming Essex Police’s zero-tolerance policy on sexual misconduct and stating such conduct will be held accountable.
Reporting restrictions protected witness identities.
