Kimmel announced the loss on Instagram, expressing deep grief and honoring their decades-long friendship and professional partnership since the show’s 2003 debut.
Escobedo, a skilled saxophonist, led the house band Cleto and the Cletones and had previously performed with artists including Earth, Wind & Fire’s Phillip Bailey, Paula Abdul, and Marc Anthony.
He was absent from recent episodes due to illness, prompting the cancellation of a show.
The cause of death has not been disclosed.
He is survived by his wife Lori, two children, and parents.
