AusArt Day raised $2.26M with major government support, testing a new arts fundraising model.
AusArt Day, a national arts fundraising initiative by Creative Australia, raised over $2.26 million on October 23 with support from more than 330 artists and organizations, but nearly half the funds came from government sources, including $800,000 from South Australia and up to $450,000 in matched funding from Creative Australia.
The agency also spent $500,000 on micro-grants to help participants promote their campaigns.
While some groups raised less than their grants, the event helped build fundraising infrastructure.
Creative Australia called it a success in testing a new model amid sector challenges, but did not disclose the total cost, exact government contributions, or how many groups met their goals.
The future of the initiative remains under review.
